Secrets to finally losing baby weight

Congrats mama, you went through 9 months of ups and downs and birthed a beautiful baby. First off, give yourself a hug for all the amazing things you do. You have now entered into the next phase of your life, postpartum. Before diving into the secrets, I want to let you know that this post is not for moms still in their 4th trimester. Your body is still healing and going through changes until 12 weeks postpartum. Give yourself that time to rest, for your body to establish a milk supply, and to bond with your baby. Also, make sure you are cleared to resume exercises by your doctor before attempting to lose weight.

So if you are ready to emerge from your postpartum period healthy, strong, fit, confident, and energized, then let’s turn the leaf and become the women and mom you dreamed of.

In this blog post I am sharing my best kept secrets to finally losing the baby weight. I will cover:

During my first pregnancy I gained 40 lbs. I was at my highest weight and being in the fitness industry I felt ashamed that I gained that much weight. Once I was cleared to workout, I immediately went on a hunt for something new to try that will help me shed the baby weight. I was motivated and didn’t want to go back to my old way of training. Let’s face it, I was a new mom that felt uncomfortable in her skin, was low on energy, didn’t like how her old workout clothes fit, and really didn’t have the time or mental capacity to hit the gym.

I needed a program that I could do in 30 min in the comfort of my home and that would not bore me. I remembered a past client mentioning the FASTer Way to Fat Loss program and I decided to test it out. I joined the 6 week challenge and was hooked. I love how my body feels, the quick yet challenging workouts, and most of all the support. I fell in love with it and decided I wanted to be a Coach, and immediately signed up for the next coach training.

So here is what I learned during the 6 week program that skyrocketed my weight loss. These are the exact secrets that will help you shed the baby weight once and for all.

Secret # 1: Intermittent fasting

For those who do not know, Intermittent Fasting is timed eating. There are different eating protocols you can follow while fasting. Everything from a 14 hour fast to a 24 hour fast. Each one has its own set of benefits. The main reason for fasting is to allow your body time to digest the meals from the day before and to heal, making it more receptive to fat loss.

Many women flock to IF because of its amazing benefits:

  • Reduced inflammation

  • Improved sleep

  • Greater mental clarity and focus

  • Better digestion, improved gut health biodiversity

  • Improved hormone profile - lowers insulin, improves insulin sensitivity, Increases human growth hormone, increase norepinephrine

  • Maintenance of skeletal muscle mass

  • Use of stored fat for fuel

Secret # 2: Stop counting calories

That's right, you no longer have to stress about eating a certain number of calories a day. Instead, focus on the 3 main macronutrients- protein, fat, and carbohydrates. These three macronutrients along with fiber will ensure your body is receiving proper nutrition to heal and to energize.

  • Carbs are the main fuel source for the body. Your body needs carbs, but for weight loss you need to find that sweet spot. Alternating between a lower and higher carb intake aids in fat loss.

  • Proteins are the building blocks of lean muscle, and muscle supports a firing metabolism. If you’re not eating enough protein, you will start to lose muscle mass, which means you’ll have a slower metabolism and a harder time losing fat and creating a strong, fit body.

  • Fats support your metabolism and hormone production. They can also improve your mood and body composition.

Having a good macro balance will boost your metabolism, helping you to shed the baby weight. The key here is to have your personalized macro plan, so you know exactly how much your body needs to thrive.

Secret # 3: Work smarter not harder

Once you are cleared to resume working out, it is wise to have a plan in place. Remember mama, it's been a while since your last workout, and even longer since you lifted heavy or performed some exercises. Now is the time to ease back into your routine, verses going all out on day one. You want to be careful with ab exercises that can hinder your recovery, especially if you experienced any Diastasis Recti. It is wise to modify your moves until you feel strong enough to try some more challenging exercises.

Resist the urge to do more cardio or HITT style exercises. To achieve that lean look you are going for, you need to add lean muscle mass, which means strength training. It can seem intimidating to strength train, but you can do it from home very easily. All you need is resistance bands and free weights, along with your body weight. No need for fancy gym equipment or expensive gym memberships (unless you want to treat yourself to it, then by all means mama you do you)

Secret # 4: Stress can be holding you back

Mama, did you know stress can be a key factor in why you are not losing weight. Yeah, it plays a major role in retaining or even gaining weight. All that cortisol (stress hormone) can cause excess weight gain around the midsection of your body (the exact place where you want to see a reduction.) Chronic stress can cause your body to burn less calories and bring your metabolism to a crawl. You can do all the “right” things, but that pesky stress in your life is hindering your results.
